What is a zero-waste audit?

In general, a zero-waste audit aims at eliminating the waste of your organisation. The goal is to learn from your waste habits. That means identifying what waste you create and then committing to systematic and behavioral changes to decrease and, where possible eliminate, waste.

These audits also offer the chance to educate you and your employees about what throwing something ‘away’ actually means. ‘Away’ of course does not mean that your waste magically disappears. Even recyclables often end up in landfills all around the globe. This large amount of un-reused trash has devastating effects on our ecosystems. Therefore, improving your waste management can largely benefit our planet and, of course, your company!

How do zero-waste audits work?

Our zero-waste audits usually consist of 3 main phases with the goal of reaching a 90% landfill conversion rate. Those include the reporting and the weighing of materials:

Phase One: Preparation

A: Off-site – In a first step, we identify waste materials and disposal methods, as well as get in touch with waste contractors.

B: On-site – We will observe, document and weigh the materials that you dispose.

Phase Two: Reporting

During this phase, we provide you with a written report, which includes (among other things) photos and details about all waste coming out of your facility, an excel data sheet that classifies the recyclability of your waste and categorisation of the different waste streams

Phase Three: Outlook & Recommendations

At the end of the audit, we will evaluate the regional downstream capabilities and future scenarios. We will identify ways of improvement and future corporations to reach the goal of the 90% landfill conversion rate!
